meet & greet
We personally meet and greet you in Polokwane at Polokwane international airport.
flights
You will need to book your flight from your home country to Johannesburg (O.R Tambo international airport). From there you will need to book a connecting flight to Polokwane (Polokwane international airport) South Africa. We recommend to book with South African Airways as they allow transportation of rifles. Additional documentation is needed by persons under the age of 18 years for travel to and from South Africa.
Rifle transport
Standard legislation pertaining to the carriage of weapons and ammunition for each destination will apply. Passengers entering South Africa with onward international flights may have their firearms and ammunition checked through to the final destination. Do however note that such firearms and ammunition may be blocked by airport baggage screening staff for inspection, which will require the airline to page each passenger to proceed to a designated baggage reconciliation area, where you will be required to open any bags containing ammunition for inspection. Please ask to have your rifle checked direct to Polokwane (Polokwane international airport) South Africa.
visa requirements
Visas are required for most passports. Most visas can be purchased at the airport or border in United States Dollars cash. Keep a flight or tour itinerary and / or copy of air ticket handy. We will send you a letter stating you will be hosted by Balla-Balla Safaris in South Africa.
Departure day
Departure from Balla-Balla Conservancy is planned for the early morning after breakfast. We would have to leave early since it’s a 60 minute drive from to Polokwane. You would transfer directly to your pre-scheduled international connecting flight back home via Johannesburg (O.R Tambo international).
Bank Information
The local currency is South African Rand. There are numerous banks and bureau de change shops. US$ and all other major currencies are widely accepted though it will likely be convenient to have some local currency during your stay. Travelers' cheques are not widely accepted. ATM machines are available.
Medication, Medical Insurance & evacuation
We suggest that you consult your doctor beforehand and inform him/her that you will be visiting South Africa. Travelers carrying prescription medicine must carry a copy of their prescription at all times. It is also imperative that you have adequate medical insurance that includes evacuation in the event of an emergency.
