Travel Information

a safe travel destination - friendly people

Meet & Greet

We personally meet and greet you upon arrival in Livingstone at Harry Mwanga Nkumbula International Airport, ensuring a smooth and welcoming start to your safari experience.

Flights

You will need to book your international flight from your home country to Johannesburg (O.R. Tambo International Airport). From there, a connecting flight is required to Livingstone (Harry Mwanga Nkumbula International Airport), Zambia.
We recommend using South African Airways, as they permit the transportation of firearms in accordance with their regulations (subject to prior approval and compliance with airline requirements).

Please note that additional documentation is required for passengers under the age of 18 travelling to and from South Africa.

Rifle Transport

Standard legislation governing the carriage of firearms and ammunition for each destination will apply.
Passengers entering South Africa with onward international flights may have their firearms and ammunition checked through to their final destination. However, please note that in some cases these items may be flagged by airport security for inspection. If this occurs, passengers will be required to proceed to a designated baggage reconciliation area where luggage containing firearms or ammunition must be opened for verification.

We strongly recommend that you request your rifle be checked through directly to Livingstone (Harry Mwanga Nkumbula International Airport), Zambia, to ensure a smoother transit process and to avoid unnecessary delays during connections.

Visas Requirements

Visas are required for most passport holders. In many cases, visas can be obtained on arrival at the airport or border and are payable in US Dollars (cash). Alternatively, visas can be purchased in advance online through the official government e-visa website before travel. This is the best option and some countries the only option.

We recommend keeping a copy of your flight itinerary, return ticket, and travel documents readily available for immigration purposes. Balla-Balla Safaris will provide you with a formal invitation letter confirming that you are being hosted in Zambia, which may be required during your entry process.

Departure Day

Departure from Bird Estate or Dendro Park is scheduled for early morning after breakfast. We depart early to allow sufficient travel time approximately 2 hours from Bird Estate or around 5 hours from Dendro Park.

Guests may either overnight in Livingstone at the Avani Victoria Falls Resort or the Royal Livingstone Hotel, or transfer directly to Harry Mwanga Nkumbula International Airport for their onward flight connection via Johannesburg (O.R. Tambo International Airport) and return travel home.

Bank Information

The local currency is the Zambian Kwacha (ZMW). There are several banks and bureau de change facilities available for currency exchange. US Dollars and other major international currencies are widely accepted; however, it is recommended to have some local currency on hand for convenience during your stay. ATM machines are also available in major towns and centres.

Medication, Medical Insurance & evacuation

Malaria is endemic in Zambia. We strongly recommend that you consult your doctor prior to travel and inform them that you will be visiting a malaria area, so that appropriate preventative medication and precautions can be prescribed. Traveler's carrying prescription medication should keep a copy of their prescription with them at all times during travel. It is also essential to have comprehensive medical insurance that includes emergency evacuation cover in the event of a medical emergency.

The sable I had taken was an old solitary bull, past his breeding prime, and of no further social or genetic benefit to his kind. This wonderful sable was mine! I had captured him in a moment of memory that I would treasure the rest of my life

Dendro is a special place, I am so happy my wife got to hunt buffalo there as well. She had a very nice hunt and like you said it's amazing how big bodied those bulls are in the Kafue.
